ISSO Graduate Assistant:

The graduate assistant in ISSO will be responsible for:  

Programming and Event Planning:

  • Develop and implement social, cultural, and informational programs for UNL international student and scholar population
  • Assist with the development and implementation of programs and activities for welcoming and integrating international students in the campus community: program selection, planning and marketing, workshop planning and delivery, campus orientations/open houses, and outreach to the multicultural student organizations
  • Assist with the development and implementation of programming for International Education Week and other special occasions
  • Plan, schedule, and organize student activities, trips, and events

Social Media:

  • Maintain social media content calendar and post scheduling
  • Update and assist with social media marketing and publications for programs and events
  • Assist in creating and distributing weekly newsletters
  • Create event graphics using platforms like Canva, Facebook events, and Instagram posts

Other Duties

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Provide support for pre-arrival immigration activities: create and revise pre-arrival information materials; organize new student files and documentation
  • Create and distribute surveys and questionnaires as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Implementing Support Initiatives for Various Populations

  • Brainstorming and developing support and resources for specific populations such as international graduate students, sponsored students, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNL graduate program
  • Must be enrolled in at least 9 graduate credits each semester of assistantship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in international education
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of students
  • Social media skills including Facebook, Instagram, and others
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology
  • Leadership experience
  • Creativity, high energy, strong work ethic, and professionalism
