The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will welcome leaders from Senshu University in Tokyo this September to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their academic partnership. The long-standing collaboration has supported hundreds of Nebraska students studying abroad in Japan and brought many Senshu students to Lincoln.
The multi-day visit to UNL will include the renewal of a memorandum of understanding between the two universities, a luncheon hosted by the College of Business, and a series of campus activities highlighting the exchange relationship. Events will feature opportunities for faculty, staff, and advisors to learn more about student mobility programs, as well as cultural activities in collaboration with the Kawasaki Reading Room.
One of the featured events for students will take place on Thursday, September 4, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Global Education Center atrium at Louise Pound Hall. Open to all UNL students, the event does not require registration. Activities will begin at 3:30 p.m. with tea, origami, and Japanese video games, followed by a cultural program and discussion about study abroad opportunities in Japan, including programs at Senshu University.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students to experience Japanese culture right here on campus and to learn more about how Senshu University could fit into their academic journey,” said Marnie Nelson, Director of the Global Experiences Office. “Events like this bring international partnerships to life and help our students imagine themselves studying and thriving abroad!"
The celebration will culminate with the Senshu University 40th Anniversary Reception, scheduled for Friday, September 5, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the Global Education Center atrium at Louise Pound Hall. UNL alumni who studied abroad at Senshu and campus community members engaged in the partnership are encouraged to attend. Registration is available at go.unl.edu/senshu40.
“Nebraska and Senshu University have built a partnership that continues to benefit our students, faculty, staff, and alumni,” said Blayne Sharpe, Nebraska’s Director of Global Partnerships and Initiatives. “We look forward to celebrating this milestone together and envisioning the next chapter.”
