The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the University of Jordan marked a new milestone in their academic partnership with a ceremonial signing of a joint Ph.D. program in Computer Engineering. The virtual event, held September 3, brought together senior leaders from both universities to celebrate the agreement.
Representing Nebraska were Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Mark Button, College of Engineering Dean Lance Pérez, and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs Maegan Stevens-Liska. From the University of Jordan, President Nathir Obeidat, Vice President for Scientific Schools Ashraf Abu Karaky, and Dean of the School of Engineering Menwer Attarakih participated in the ceremony.
“This agreement reflects our shared commitment to advancing doctoral education, research collaboration, and academic mobility,” said EVC Button. “We are deeply grateful to our colleagues at the University of Jordan and to the Jordanian Government for their trust in Nebraska as a partner. Together, we are creating opportunities that will benefit both our institutions and the societies we serve.”
The joint Ph.D. program builds on years of collaboration between the universities, including exchanges of professors and scholars, joint publications, and graduate student engagement. Both institutions expressed appreciation for the contributions of Nebraska faculty member Fadi Alsaleem, who has played a meaningful role in supporting this collaboration.
