Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program (IEP) is for students who primarily want to learn English. It teaches grammar/usage, reading/writing, and listening/speaking. Classes are small and designed to provide you with a typical American classroom experience.

Credit English for Academic Purposes

The Credit English for Academic Purposes (CEAP) program is available for students who have an advanced level of English proficiency yet fall below the minimum requirement for full admission—you can start in CEAP and earn credit toward your degree.

TOEFL Requirement: 61 (17 writing subscore)
IELTS Requirement: 5.0 (4.5 writing subscore)

Full Admission

Once you meet the English proficiency and academic requirements for full admission, you can start your degree program at NEBRASKA.

TOEFL Requirement: 70 (20 writing subscore)
IELTS Requirement: 6.0 (5.5 writing subscore)

Earn Academic Credit While you Study English

The Credit English for Academic Purposes (CEAP) program offers provisional admission with enrollment restrictions to students who have demonstrated some level of English proficiency, but do not meet the requirements for full admission.

Students have the opportunity to receive undergraduate credit (9 semester hours) for the Intensive English curriculum, and also enroll in one additional undergraduate course (3 semester hours), which will count toward degree requirements.

CEAP admission is for a single term only. Students selected for the program are expected to:

  • maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • complete the English proficiency requirement

This results in unrestricted enrollment (full admission) for subsequent terms.

Students who do not meet these requirements will be considered for admission after review by an admission committee.
